POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Our client is currently recruiting a general pediatrician to establish a community practice and provide inpatient care. Currently, the department has a complement of four neonatologists and six and a half pediatricians. 

The Hospital is a regional referral center and teaching hospital; with 3500 deliveries per year in our referral region; 18 bed NICU; 20-bed Pediatric Unit; 3-bed close observation unit. A $36-million project for a brand-new wing to modernize the environment for maternal and newborn services, neonatal intensive care and maternal fetal medicine is underway, and is expected to open

EMPLOYER:
Our client is one of the largest health-care organizations in Atlantic Canada, operating 12 hospitals and more than 100 medical facilities, clinics and offices providing medical services ranging from acute care to community-based health services to New Brunswick, northern Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. With 1,000 physicians, an annual budget exceeding $1 billion and approximately 13,000 employees.

The Hospital is a 386-bed tertiary and critical care facility. It is a major referral hospital which serves communities throughout New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia. It is a Level II Trauma Centre which offers tertiary services in neurosurgery, oncology and neonatal care and includes all other major services and subspecialties. The hospital has two state of the art MIS suites as well as a new outpatient complex including an up-to-date GI/endoscopy suite, clinics and minor OR suites.

The Moncton Hospital offers excellent opportunities for teaching and clinical research and has academic affiliation with Dalhousie University. The hospital is one of the largest employers within metro Moncton, employing 3,000 staff and physicians.

HOURS OF WORK:

  • Full-time, minimum 37.5 hours per week and,

  • On-call coverage in coordination with the department

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Pediatrician shall establish a comprehensive full-time practice in general pediatrics and provide both inpatient and outpatient services at the Hospital including participation in the on-call rota of the Department of Pediatrics.

The Pediatrician will not be expected to cover call or provide inpatient care in the NICU.

A typical weekly schedule will include:

  •  Provide inpatient care including daily rounds on patients admitted under your care or per the hospitalist rounding schedule

  • Provide consultations to hospital-based patients as requested by attending staff

  • Provide an outpatient service for the assessment and management of both new and follow-up patients

  • Teaching responsibilities for residents, medical students, nurses, and peers as appropriate

  • Participate in departmental and other appropriate pediatrics and hospital committees

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to address staff and patient education needs

REMUNERATION:

Standard remuneration is fee-for-service which is a direct compensation between the physician and Medicare of New Brunswick. No source deductions can be provided. However, under special circumstances, with approval from the Department of Health of New Brunswick, a salaried model, with benefits, may be available. This may range between a minimum of $241,748 to a maximum of $293,904 annually (excluding benefits and source deductions) based on qualifications and experience.  On-call and out-of-province remuneration is fee-for-service.

These rates are based on New Brunswick’s Medicare Medical Pay Plan and are subject to changes based on policy updates.

As soon as possible.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A medical degree is required.

  • Certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or American Board Certification in Pediatrics. In circumstances where no qualified Canadian trained applicants are available, equivalent certification may be considered as long as they qualify for licensure in the Province of New Brunswick. 

  • Candidates must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.

  • Proficiency in English is required. Bilingual skills would be considered an asset.

  • In accordance with immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills.

  • Good attendance and work record.

  • Physically able to perform assigned duties.
