Newfoundland, Canada

Full Time and Locum Opportunities Available

Location:

Western Health, situated on the scenic west coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, is hiring a full-time, salaried Pediatrician to join a stable and collegial group of three Pediatricians providing services to Corner Brook and surrounding area.

Western Memorial Regional Hospital is a 171-bed regional referral center for Western Newfoundland and provides services to a population base of approximately 78,000 people. A new, state of the art, acute care hospital is under construction and is scheduled for completion later in 2023, with move in occurring in 2024. At Western Memorial Regional Hospital, level 2 care is provided, and patients requiring tertiary care are transferred to the Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre. Inpatient care and on call services are provided to the hospital. Outpatient clinics operate from Western Memorial Health Clinic, which is off site.

The incumbent will conduct a full-scope, community pediatric practice and share the clinical work equally with the current staff. They will need to be experienced and proficient in newborn resuscitation and care, assessment of the acutely ill child, interpretation of diagnostic tests, prescription and monitoring of treatment, communication with colleagues. As a high proportion of outpatient referrals pertain to concerns of learning and behavior, proficiency in this area is a must. Candidates with interest and experience in Developmental and Behavioural Pediatrics would be highly regarded. Opportunities exist to join teams specializing in Autism diagnosis and treatment of children and youth in alternate care.

Western Health provides training courses for staff, including the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and will soon offer Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN). It is also a teaching site for Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador's Faculty of Medicine. The incumbent would participate in teaching and uphold the site's reputation for excellence in education.
