Urologist - Full time - Ottawa Region

Located one and a half hours west of Ottawa, our client delivers a broad range of acute, post-acute, outpatient and diagnostic services to a mixed urban and rural population of approximately 100,000 residents in the Upper Ottawa Valley. We are recruiting a full-time urologist to help provide comprehensive urological services. The division of urology  operates as a satellite division of The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) Department of Urology.

The hospital is situated on the shores of the Ottawa River close to Algonquin Park and provides an array of diagnostic and specialist services. Clinical programs include: emergency medicine, internal medicine, hospitalist services, ICU, mental health, rehabilitation, anesthesiology, obstetrics/gynecology, and surgical services including general surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, and orthopaedic surgery. A full array of diagnostic and laboratory services are available. Medical imaging services include CT, MRI, ultrasound, x-ray, fluoroscopy, and nuclear medicine.

The operating room facilities are comprised of four recently constructed OR suites. The urology OR is fully equipped for endoscopic procedures, minimally invasive renal surgery, and open procedures. Additional procedure rooms are allocated for flexible cystoscopy, minor procedures under local anesthetic, and urodynamics.  Urology is allocated 1+ OR days per week, 1 day per week in cystoscopy clinic and one half day a week in the minor procedure area.

Affiliation with TOH allows opportunities for teaching medical students and residents. Educational sessions are teleconferenced to our client and monthly journal clubs and learning events allow ongoing learning, collaboration, and professional development.

Position Requirements

  • Fully independent registration (or eligible for) with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • Certified by the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada – FRCSC in Urology
  • Experience with laparoscopic renal surgery and open prostatectomy
  • Experience working with teams and possessing strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Remuneration is based on fee for service billings plus HOCC (Hospital on Call Coverage) stipend. Additional grant funding is available through the Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative.
