Clinical Assistant - Moncton

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Our client is currently recruiting for a clinical assistant in Moncton, New Brunswick. A Clinical Assistant provides clinical medical work under the direct supervision of a regularly licensed physician within a healthcare institution. Work is performed within the confines of the scope of practice and position description provided. Other work may arise by circumstance and may be assigned by their Clinical Supervisor, the Local Chief of Staff, or applicable Medical Director. The physician acts within the confines of the relevant departmental and medical rules and bylaws.

JOB DUTIES:

Work can be performed in various healthcare settings and includes duties such as providing surgical assistance for elective and emergency surgeries, caring for hospitalized patients in collaboration with attending physicians, participating in an on-call rotation during holidays and weekends, and engaging in the evaluation and treatment of patients as directed by consulting/attending physicians. This description has been designed to indicate typical examples and the level of work performed by physicians in this classification. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required of employees assigned to this job. 

HOURS OF WORK:

  • Monday to Friday based on 37.5 hours per week

  • Must participate in an on-call rotation during statutory holidays, weekends, and evenings that provides care for surgical inpatients (“first call” for surgery inpatient units)

REMUNERATION:

  • Salaried position starting at $146,517 per year, Plus FFS billings for after hours

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidates must have graduated from a medical school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and acceptable in Canada, with a minimum of two years of postgraduate training and one year of licensed independent, unsupervised practice experience. 

  • Must have LMCC (Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada) or an acceptable alternative as per the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick’s policy is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Applicants must possess an eligibility letter for a Clinical Assistant license from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick.

EXPECTED START DATE:

  • As soon as possible.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Clinical Assistants must:

  1. Maintain appropriate annual CME/CPD requirements;

  2. Comply with the policies and procedures of the Department of Surgery;

  3. Comply with the provisions of the Hospital Act, the Regional Health Authorities Act, Community Health Center regulation, Medical Services Payment Act, and their regulations;

  4. Follow the code of ethics of College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick and the Canadian Medical Association;

  5.  Comply with recommendations of a performance review after 12 weeks, 6 months, and one year after employment and annually thereafter;

  6. Be a member in good standing with the New Brunswick Medical Society; and

  7. Maintain malpractice insurance from the Canadian Medical Protective Association appropriate to the category of practice.
