The Physician works as a consultant to the organization and provides health care services, primarily Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT), within a clinic environment or via telemedicine.

Canadian Addiction Treatment Centres (CATC) will provide resources for physicians to upgrade or obtain appropriate training to manage the Client's addiction patients.

Based on the provision of services and subject to fee splitting arrangements, CATC will process billings through provincial health plans and will apportion the payments in accordance with the Associate agreement.   CATC provides support services within the clinics including scheduling on behalf of the physician performing or arranging for testing as ordered by the Physician Associate.

Accountabilities

The Physician will render health care services to patients at assigned clinic(s) in person and, where clinically appropriate, via telemedicine/video conference (“PCVC”) including the following:

  1. The Physician will attend to patients’ medical needs as they arise out of their participation in the Opioid Agonist Maintenance Program offered by the provincial ministry and attend to their other medical needs related to addiction, chronic pain, and other medical conditions.
  2. The Physician will be available to meet directly with Patients at the Clinics at a pre-arranged schedule to be agreed upon between CATC and the Associate, in accordance with Patients’ overriding clinical needs. The schedule will be based upon the anticipated number of Patients expected to require Health Care Services and the Clinic’s operating hours.
  3. The Physician will strictly adhere to the relevant provincial policy from the physician oversight body on Methadone Maintenance Treatment for Opioid Dependence and will use their professional judgment in respect of the practice of all opiate agonist therapies, as clinically indicated.
  4. The Physician will personally render Health Care Services to Patients unless the services are appropriately delegated in accordance with the provincial policy on Delegation of Controlled Acts.
  5. The Physician will follow CATC’s “Policies and Procedures Manual” and their professional judgment when rendering Health Care Services to a Patient.
  6. The Physician will use reasonable efforts to attend all regular staff meetings at the assigned Clinic(s), such meetings to be scheduled by CATC at reasonable intervals and frequency in advance.
  7. The Physician will use reasonable efforts to attend all educational sessions, provided at the discretion of CATC, at the assigned Clinic(s), such sessions to be scheduled by CATC at reasonable intervals and frequency in advance.
  8. The Physician will provide reasonable assistance to CATC with respect to submission of billings to the provincial health care plan.
  9. The Physician may participate in provincial or national physician working groups or oversight teams.
  10. The Physician works in compliance with provincial regulations.   The Medical Director provides oversight to clinical practices and intervenes should there be a concern.

 Qualifications

  • The physician must be licensed and eligible to practice in British Columba without restrictions.
  • Experience in Addiction Treatment would be considered an asset. Additional training in addiction treatment will be required.
  • Physician must be able to work both in person from the clinic and also be comfortable working with telemedicine.
  • The physician must currently hold a valid BC Billing number.
