Controller, PE-Backed Construction Company

Job Title: Controller
Report To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Purpose: The Controller is responsible for the accurate and timely presentation of financial results, effective cash management and ensuring effective system of controls over accounting transactions, accounting systems, company policies and processes. 

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure an effective system of controls
  • Supervise and direct accounting staff, ensuring compliance with best practices and established financial regulations
  • Ensure that the company remains in compliance with laws and regulations
  • Oversee the accounting department operations to ensure adequacy for achieving the organization’s strategic goals
  • Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly and accounts payable are paid in a timely manner, maintaining solid cash management
  • Participate in and oversee the month end close process for the company and corporate entities
  • Coordinate the preparation of monthly company level, corporate level, and consolidated financial statements
  • Build and maintain data for the calculation of the company’s key performance indicators.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors
  • Develop and manage the budget and forecast for the company and corporate entities
  • Provide financial analyses, as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions and contract negotiations
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Assist with M&A activity and working with other Controllers for the successful integration of future acquisitions
  • Additional controller duties as needed

Education and Experience:
Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or related field
  • At least 10+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Construction accounting experience
  • Onsite at Milwaukee office
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience supervising, developing staff and working in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Experience with working with a growing company and creating best practices and development of team members
Preferred:
  • Experience in mergers and acquisitions
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant
