Title:  Power Plant Operator

Location:  Meriden, CT

Pay:  $42/Hour

Schedule:  5 On 2 Off 8 Hour Shift 11pm-7am – Can Bid Other Shifts If Desired

This position is stationed on a newer and stable combined cycle power plant in Meriden centrally located in the state.  The role is available to get ahead of an upcoming retirement and the team at this site has a strong average tenure of 10+ years per employee.  The plant runs steady with minimal forced outages and is a great opportunity to work on a civilian power plant with growth potential into the Control Room and other leadership roles.  Turbine experience is preferred but our client will consider any strong plant operations background.  A current valid Connecticut OE-2 License is preferred but not required.

Job Description:
  • Assist in the start-up, shut down, and normal operations of power plant systems
  • Operate major auxiliary apparatus, including air compressors, circulating water systems, boiler feedwater treatment systems, wastewater systems, generator cooling systems, boiler feedwater and condensate systems, as well as locally controlled electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Perform operating tests and inspections, and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment to achieve proper operating conditions
  • Execute orders from the Control Room Operator at isolated panels for clearing equipment or preparing it for service, following operating instructions and procedures. Ensure proper clearing, tagging, testing, and safety taping of these operations
  • Conduct routine water chemistry analysis and operate continuous Emissions Monitoring equipment
  • Maintain logs as assigned, and promptly report any abnormal or irregular conditions that develop during work progress. Take corrective measures within the scope of operating instructions
  • Provide assistance to maintenance personnel during maintenance  periods
  • Complete other tasks as required by the Control Room Operator or the Operations Manager
  • Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.).
