Summary
The Corrosion and Fouling Engineer takes ownership of all refinery process and water corrosion control and has an in depth understanding of refining operations and how unit operations affect corrosion and fouling. Develops Corrosion Control Documents and Integrity Operating Windows for the refinery operations. Advises the refinery staff about potential effects of changes in feedstocks or operating conditions. Oversees work of chemical corrosion control vendors. Maintains contact with other company and industry corrosion engineers to develop corrosion engineering expertise, and to identify and develop solutions to corrosion problems.
 
Additional Job Duties:
  • Working with Process Engineering, Operations, and Reliability to establish Corrosion Control Documents and Integrity Operating Windows
  • Accountable for corrosion and materials engineering upkeep of unit Corrosion Control Documents (CCD’s), CCD training, and inputs for site Risk Based Inspection (RBI) process, as well as working with Company Inspectors and Reliability Engineers
  • Reviewing and approving recommended treatment programs by chemical vendors and advising Operations and Process Engineering about chemical program
  • Leading chemical oversight team
  • Collaborating with the area operating teams to improve unit surveillance, reduce leaks, improve safety and maintain compliance with the mechanical integrity
  • Ensuring corrosion monitoring, including laboratory measurements of water and process samples, inspection measurements, and corrosion monitoring probes
  • Maintaining awareness of chemical injection, water wash, and corrosion control programs already in place within the refinery
  • Leading Operations Engineers in identifying deficiencies and making improvements
  • Establishing regular contact with company and industry peers to develop corrosion expertise and for information exchange, including participation in technical societies and conferences
  • Conducting failure investigations and corrosion studies on systems and equipment
  • Working with crude supply on review and approval of crude feedstock selection
  • Evaluating new crude slates for corrosion and reliability concerns
  • Staying abreast of new developments in areas of process corrosion/ fouling control systems, corrosion monitoring, and materials of construction and utilizing where available and appropriate
  • Collaborating with Metallurgist to develop each other’s technical and unit operation skills
  • Consulting with Reliability and Project Engineers on alloy selection
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum/Preferred Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering plus 3-5 years of job-related experience, Chemical or Mechanical preferred 
  • Metallurgical training is a plus
  • P.E. in Metallurgical and Materials or NACE Corrosion Specialist is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SAP, project scheduling, and estimating
  • Advanced level of familiarity with industry standards and specifications related to the project work; design, construction, and operation
  • Desire and ability to learn refinery process technology and operations
  • Valid driver’s license required
Eligibility Requirements:
The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with the rules established by the United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration. Candidates selected for employment must meet eligibility criteria to obtain a TWIC card.
