Public Health Educator

Mon-Fri:  8am-5pm
Pay: $30/hr.

DESCRIPTION
Plans, organizes, and develops health education programs that meet community needs. Collects data and performs research to assist in developing, pretesting and evaluating health related education techniques and/or materials. Educates civic and community groups (Houston Super Neighborhoods and Super Neighborhoods Alliance, etc.) regarding program functions and the various services offered by the HHD Tobacco Prevention Program. Coordinates and provides tobacco prevention and control education (AS-ME) training to internal and external partners, stakeholders, and community groups. Prepares tobacco prevention and control educational pamphlets and presentations. Home visits provide triggers reduction training to families with member(s) suffering from asthma. Provides educational material and tobacco prevention and control education to school nurses not included in the environmental mobile unit contract. Will perform other duties as assigned.  Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and comply with AP 2-2 policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS    
KNOWLEDGE:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Education, Behavioral Science or a closely related field such as Public Health.
EXPERIENCE:
No experience is required. Directly related professional experience in Public Health, Education or a closely related field may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

WORKING CONDITIONS           
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.
PHYSICAL SKILL:
Requires the ability to make simple gross motor responses within large tolerances.
