NYC born Luxury Designer is hiring a Sr. level Knitwear Designer (Sweaters & C+S) to lead the knitwear department. The brand is known for details of construction, use of natural fibers, beautiful finishing and ease of fit and form. Loyal following with strong wholesale, retail and ecommerce distro.

Seeking an experienced Senior Knitwear Designer to work closely with our Vice President of Design and Creative Director, alongside the design, development, and technical teams. This person must have a shared passion to create an innovative and beautiful knitted product with a focus on handmade details and impeccable quality. With an ever-expanding customer base and brand visibility, this is a great opportunity to join our rapidly growing company.

Overview:
  • In office fulltime (5 days/week)
  • 7+ years Luxury knitwear experience required
  • Reports into VP of Design + CD
  • Sweaters (mostly) and C+S
  • Design team has 2 in Sweaters (this role + freelancer + intern support) and 3 in RTW. There is a TD and Dev person as well.
  • Manufactures overseas
  • Approximate salary (BOE): $145,000-165,000
  • Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k (no match yet but working on it), etc!

Responsibility/Accountability
Design and Direction:
  • Under the direction of the Vice President of Design, build and develop seasonal concepts for knitwear category.
  • Collaborate on seasonal references, research, and overall design direction with a focus on knitwear. Refine collection ideas and assortment based on collection brief.
  • Sketch into seasonal product with a focus on style, fit and stitch. Must have strong sketching abilities and be able to express ideas through drawing and rendering.
  • Develop 5+ groups per season with the goal of growing the knitwear business.
  • Responsible for the sourcing of yarns, custom developments of materials and stitches along with placing the purchase orders for any materials required.
  • Aid in the sourcing of key knitwear factories with a range of skill sets, price point and technical capabilities.
  • Responsible for daily communication with vendors to ensure meeting key calendar dates.
  • Attend all fittings throughout the development of the knitwear collection from prototypes to final samples until the pre-production stage.
  • Ensure all styles are followed through with flawless execution, cohesive design details, achieving goals with acute attention to the product.
  • Ensure deliverables meet budget and time commitments without compromising design excellence.
  • Travel to suppliers and factories to maintain and grow key partnerships along with expanding vendor options.

  • Directional design thinking, an ability to be forward with concept and ideas while maintaining the brand design codes
  • Maintain product integrity through cohesive design details that are unique to the brand and of the highest quality
  • Understanding of current RTW business – success/opportunities for collection, consumer expectations, target costs, etc., with the ability to find appropriate creative solutions
  • Understanding collection timelines and milestones
  • Using resources wisely and collecting information to make informed decisions

Personal Characteristics:
  • 8+ year work experience in Knitwear Design (Sweaters and C+S)
  • Self-starter personality; driven by deadlines with a high sense of urgency
  • Strong communications skills: listening, expressing ideas through drawing, writing and verbally, to exchange ideas and help to reach optimal conclusions.
  • Pragmatic, able to enter into the minutiae and still maintain global picture
  • Desire to learn and collaborate
