International Trade Specialist

Our Client, a well- respected Boutique International Trade Firm, is seeking an Entry Level International Trade Specialist to join it’s team.
1. Summary of Position: Assist attorneys in small law firm (currently six lawyers) with an international trade practice. The nature of the work will vary depending on the current caseload of the firm. In the past, the work performed by persons in this position has involved (1) trade remedy proceedings before the U.S. Department of Commerce (“DOC”) and U.S. International Trade Commission (“ITC”), (2) related appeals before the U.S. Court of International Trade (“CIT”) and bi-national NAFTA panels, (3) disputes before the World Trade Organization (“WTO”), (4) trade policy matters for companies and business associations; and (5) business development activities.
2. Principal Activities
a. Case Management
1) Monitoring: Monitor case activity on DOC, ITC, CIT, and other web sites to identify new submissions.
2) Calendar Maintenance: Maintain case calendars to keep Firm members informed of up-coming deadlines.
3) Firm Notification: Prepare daily summaries of key developments, including submission of new cases and submissions by other parties in Firm cases.
4) Document Management: Log, distribute, and organize incoming digital and snail-mail correspondence.
5) Document Preparation: Prepare forms and applications for submission to relevant agencies and courts.
b. Case Support
6) Trade Remedy Proceedings: Assist with preparation and submission of questionnaire responses (including preparing drafts of narrative explanations and other supporting materials and spreadsheets); assist in analysis of issues raised by data submitted in questionnaire responses and in DOC’s analyses; assist with on-site verification of submitted data by DOC officials; assist with preparation of written arguments (including letters addressing procedural, legal and factual issues during the course of the proceeding, as well as formal case briefs and rebuttal briefs); develop arguments, information and graphical presentations for other trade-law proceedings (including injury analysis before the ITC); and careful proof-reading of documents before submission.
7) Appeals: Assist with review of factual record for appeals, with preparation and presentation of written and oral arguments, and with preparation of evidentiary appendices.
8) WTO Disputes: Assist with factual and legal research relating to issues under the WTO Agreements and with preparation of legal and factual materials for submission to panels and the Appellate Body in disputes under the WTO’s understanding on dispute settlement.
9) Trade Policy: Assist in analyzing legal and factual issues relating to the development of strategies, position papers, and proposals on trade policy issues by companies and business associations.
10) Business Development: Assist in factual research regarding potential business activities and in developing proposals and marketing materials for potential clients.
3. Required Skills: The preferred candidate will be detail-oriented and have strong communication and organizational skills. In addition, the preferred candidate will have familiarity with basic word processing, spreadsheet, pdf and presentation programs, as well as an understanding (or ability to learn) basic accounting principles. Foreign language abilities will be a plus.
