Job Summary:
We are seeking a senior litigation paralegal to join our Firm's litigation paralegal team, which is part of the Litigation Support department. In this position, you will assist the Litigation department with all aspects of litigation, including factual research, discovery, drafting notices, correspondence, pleadings, motions, orders, depositions, filing in state and federal court, trial preparation and trials. This position is based in New York and has a hybrid (in-office/remote) work schedule.
The ideal candidate is a professional process-driven individual who thrives in a busy professional legal environment with varying practice areas. This individual possesses a deep understanding of the litigation process and can prioritize work based on key factors such as the type of need and urgency to support legal teams. The candidate will take proactive measures to ensure completion of assignments in a timely manner. The candidate should have experience working on matters from their inception, through discovery and to trial or other manner of resolution.
This role is a vital part of the litigation practice group. The candidate must be able to multitask and meet multiple deadlines across numerous projects. The candidate must handle complex projects with minimal supervision and be able to create and maintain effective work relationships throughout the Firm.

Primary Responsibilities:
Case Management
  • Responsible for providing support and assistance to attorneys in the coordination, management and supervision of all aspects of litigation.
  • Be the primary point of contact for all case materials.
  • Coordinate document retrieval from clients, opposing parties and third parties under the direction of the supervising attorneys.
  • Track and organize case materials in physical and electronic case rooms, including managing deposition transcripts, exhibits, key documents and other case materials in electronic and paper form.
  • Seek to improve workflows regarding storage and recall of electronic and paper files.
  • Cite-checking, Assisting with Filings, and Proofreading
  • Assist with the preparation of and filing/serving of court documents electronically.
  • Proofread motions, letters and other documents as assigned.
  • Prepare and update Tables of Contents, Tables of Authorities and other tables in document filings.
  • Cite-check briefs and proficiently apply BlueBook citation formatting to submissions.
  • Prepare and handle technical, complex filings and manage numerous exhibits.
  • Stay up to date on court rules, filing procedures and requirements.
  • Coordinate with managing attorney and legal team to arrange for deadline reminders and distribution of court filings.
Discovery/Production Support
  • Prepare and maintain collection and production logs in conjunction with the Litigation Support department.
  • Assist in preparation and coordinating depositions, including scheduling of court reporter and videographer; along with support during the deposition process.
  • Work with Litigation Support department, IT department and external service providers to employ and maintain electronic database needs for large case management.
  • Review and update production specifications, coding manuals and coding workflows with the Litigation Support department and legal teams.
  • Prepare, manage and finalize privilege and redaction logs.
  • Conduct document searches and report search results to legal teams.
  • Code and pull documents in Relativity databases in response to legal team requests.
General Support
  • Maintain professionalism and strict confidentiality of all the Firm’s and client’s documentation and information.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Perform non-legal research using various tools, including the Internet, legal databases, law library and industry-specific sources.
  • Provide administrative and logistical trial support, coordinating with vendors, venues and internal and external teams.
  • Assist in preparing documents for hearings, arbitrations and trials, including maintaining trial exhibits and witness lists.
  • Create and maintain electronic and hardcopy binders.
  • Draft documents under the guidance of legal teams.
  • Assist partners, associates and other paralegals as needed.
  • Perform additional related responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Required Skills
  • Some years of progressive work experience in the litigation practice area, preferably in a law firm environment 
  • Must have applicable knowledge of the principles of judicial and administrative processes and filing requirements and experience working with methods of legal research, court rules and procedures, litigation terminology and documentation, docketing procedures and discovery process. 
  • Proficient in the use of Relativity databases is A PLUS, including but not limited to searching, coding and exporting documents.
  • Proficient with working knowledge of Westlaw, Lexis and other Internet databases.
  • Proficient with working in iManage, MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Exhibit a high degree of initiative with excellent analytical, technical and critical-thinking skills requiring an aptitude for detail, precision and logic to analyze and research litigation-related data, process information, conduct legal research and perform essential duties.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including record-keeping, data collection and system information.
  • Ability to compile and analyze data and furnish concise, detailed information in report format, written correspondence, email or verbally.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with courtesy and diplomacy, efficiently follow written and verbal instructions, provide information and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of attorneys, clients, staff and outside contacts.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with others in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to act independently and make decisions within the scope of the position's responsibilities.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and oversee numerous tasks from inception to completion and ensure work is completed within strict and defined deadlines.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, detail-oriented work environment and adapt to changes in workflow.
  • Proactive with excellent troubleshooting, problem resolution and follow-through skills.
  • Possess excellent knowledge of reading, writing, grammar, spelling, punctuation, proofreading and formatting to interpret source data, prepare litigation documents and forms, and perform file maintenance.
  • Ability to work overtime when necessary.
Expected salary for this non-exempt role is $120,000 - $135,000, commensurate with experience, training, skills, qualifications, and other market factors.
