eDiscovery Principal

Our client, a top Am Law firm, is seeking an eDiscovery Principal to join its thriving litigation support team. This is a senior role that is client-facing and is heavily involved in matter intake and planning that will work closely with case teams on technology concerns, client needs, and advising on best practices. This is a role for a high-polish individual with leadership experience who is comfortable discussing emergent technology with senior attorneys and has a consultative, approachable attitude and an in-depth understanding of the EDRM. This is the lynchpin of communication and understanding to advise and transfer knowledge between case teams, clients, and lit support and plays a pivotal role in departmental success. This role is largely remote but candidates should reside in any one of the following states: California, Texas, Massachusetts, Illinois, New York, Utah, or Washington D.C.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Matter Intake, Assessment & Execution
  • Consults and strategizes with case teams, clients, and team members on efficient and effective ways to meet discovery objectives through appropriate workflow design, matter staffing, vendor engagement, and application of technology
  • Able to bring forward and execute creative solutions backed up by broad experience and tested expertise; greater than 50% of the time will be spent completing client matter work  
Team Building & Growth
  • Models and fosters a culture of open, constructive communication and cross-team collaboration
  • Leads a cross-functional team of (8-10) eDiscovery experts (indirect reports) all focused on delivering exceptional outcomes to case teams and clients
  • Communicates directly, contemporaneously, and constantly with all team members transforming individual knowledge and discoveries, into team knowledge and department success
  • Encourages awareness and adoption of appropriate standard operating procedures and other defined practices necessary to ensure continuity and quality in service delivery
Department Initiatives
  • Serves as a member of department senior leadership team
  • Leads efforts focused on ensuring broad awareness of team services which may include creation and delivery of presentations to firm clients, attorneys, and paralegals
  • Supports team initiatives and special projects focused on emerging technology assessment (e.g., GenAI) and other process improvements
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
  • Includes client-billable and non-billable tasks
Qualifications & Requirements
Required
  • Candidates will have spent a significant portion of their career delivering consultative eDiscovery services in one or more of a variety of roles (e.g., at a law firm, advisory firm, service provider, inhouse legal team)
  • Significant experience with client interactions and strong familiarity with core discovery workflows including data preservation and collection standards, eDiscovery platforms (Relativity, Reveal), analytics and TAR use cases (BrainSpace, RevealAI) and common eDiscovery rules that impact project planning (ESI Orders, Federal Rules of Civil Procedures, data privacy/cross-border requirements)
  • High level of collaboration with clients, attorneys, and other firm leadership; therefore, the ideal candidate must possess strong communication skills and enjoy interacting with people at all levels with a high degree of accuracy, professionalism, and accountability
  • Candidates must possess exceptional organizational skills, coupled with good judgement and the ability to independently define and make progress on action items; concurrently, they must demonstrate a commitment to consensus building and demonstrate an ability to stay aligned with and meet directives set forth by leadership
  • Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred
  • Ideal candidates will have demonstratable, deep subject matter expertise in two or more of the following disciplines--litigation readiness/information governance consulting; data preservation and collection from enterprise systems; complex data processing; assessment of discovery orders; advanced application of analytics and TAR; design and management of effective review workflows; advanced project management processes
  • JD/LLM and/or MBA is a plus, but not necessary

Expected salary for this non-exempt role is $180,000 - $250,000, commensurate with experience, training, skills, qualifications, and other market factors.
